please get this stuff out of my house

15 Dec

this weekend i made a few batches of peppermint bark. i remember making this with mom every year at christmas but i forgot just how much i love this candy.

sunday afternoon, just in time for our neighborhood christmas party, we headed to wal mart for an ingredient run. we stopped by petsmart to check on a puppy i am in live with but quickly moved on. it breaks my heart every time. i’ve even named her. 😦

this is a super easy recipe that makes a lot for holiday gifts:

2 packs of vanilla flavored/white chocolate blocks (i get the cheap stuff but you can splurge and buy them from whole foods)

2 boxes of candy canes.

melt chocolate in a double boiler. we don’t have a double boiler so we used a metal bowl over a pot. unwrap the candy canes and put them in a ziplock back. take out your all your aggression on this back ‘o candy canes. add to melted chocolate and then pour over a cookie sheet lined with wax paper. our cookie sheet is slanted which is great for sliding cookies off but no good for peppermint bark drying, we got creative with a lot of trays we had around the house. let the mix dry for about an hour and then literally hammer the chocolate into yummy size bites.

here’s the candy right after i poured the chocolate on our giant silver tray:

alex loved the bark as well:

sandy springs might have the worst post office in the history of the world so i had to pay a little extra and ups these treats to my office in charleston. seriously sandy springs post office, one person at the counter for 25 people in line? this is the second time in a week that you’ve let me down.

I remember all the times we made peppermint bark…you can OD on this pretty easily!

I think Alex should buy you a sweet little puppy for Christmas…she can’t stay in the kennel over Christmas!! Chloe needs a sister…!
